MyBB Documentation

Usergroups

The 1.6 Documentation is no longer maintained and some information may be outdated.

The MyBB 1.6 series reached end of life on October 1, 2015.

This means there will be no more security or maintenance releases for these series and forums running these versions of MyBB may be at risk of unfixed security issues. All administrators are strongly encouraged to upgrade their forums to the latest release of MyBB as soon as possible.

User groups categorize users, providing access levels and permissions for forums and forum features. From the User Groups section in the Admin CP, you can manage the user groups on your forum, group leaders, join requests, and see a listing of all users in each group. For more information on user groups, see User Groups.

Short Description
A short description describing the user group.
Username Style

Default User Title

Copy Permissions From...
This allows you to copy all forum and group permissions from another user group, allowing you to easily set up groups with the same permissions as another user group. If you wish to copy permissions, select the user group. Otherwise, select "Don't copy permissions from another group." Doing this will create the group with default permissions.

After saving the new user group, you will be taken to the full edit page for the user group.

This tutorial will guide you how to create a Publicly Join-able Usergroup. With Publicly Join-able Group, users of your forums may join and leave those Publicly Join-able Groups. Lets begin creating your own Publicly Join-able Group.

Go to: AdminCP > Users and Groups > Groups > Click on "Add New Usergroup" tab > enter the desired values in the option fields.

After adding the values, click on "Save Usergroup" button. You'll be redirected to the new page.

Tick the following two options; - Yes, users can freely join and leave this group - Yes, all new join requests need to be moderated first (Optional)

Click on "Save Usergroup" button.

If all of these simple steps are successfully done, then you've successfully created a new Publicly Join-able Usergroup. It'll be visible on User Control Panel > Group Memberships > Publicly Join-able Usergroups.

Users & Groups: Group Leaders

The group leaders page allows you to manage the users who can manage the users in groups and who can manage the join requests for the group.

In the group leader listing, you will see:

User
The username of the user
Can manage members
Can this user add or remove members of the group?
Can manage join requests
Can this user approve or deny the group's join requests?
Controls
You can choose to either edit or delete each leader.

You can add a group leader at the bottom of the group leaders page, or edit a group leader by clicking on Edit next to the user.

Username
The username of the group leader you are adding. If you are editing a leader, you cannot change this field.
Can manage members
Can this user add or remove members of the group?
Can manage join requests
Can this user approve or deny the group's join requests?
Users & Groups: Join Requests

The group join requests page allows you to manage the join requests for user groups that require join request moderation. You can choose to approve or deny each request.

In the join request listing, you will see:

Users
The usernames of the users who are requesting to join this group.
Reason
The reason each user entered when requesting to join this group.
Date Requested
The date and time the request was sent.
Controls
Approve and Deny. This allows you to approve or deny individual requests, rather than batch approving or denying.

For each request, you can check the checkbox in the far left of each row, and then "Approve Selected Requests" or "Deny Selected Requests." Either will perform the specified action for all of the selected requests.

Checking the checkbox at the top of the table will select all requests, allowing you to approve or deny all requests at once.
